Clio Integration (Legal Practice Management)
Sync matters, contacts, and time entries between LawBillity and Clio
For law firms using Clio alongside LawBillity, this integration syncs matters, contacts, and time entries between the two systems. Instead of entering time in both places or manually exporting CSV files, the integration keeps your practice management data and your billing data in sync automatically.
What Syncs
The Clio integration connects three types of data:
- Matters → Projects — Clio matters appear as projects in TimeTracker, so your team can log time against them without recreating anything.
- Contacts → Clients — Client records from Clio are pulled into TimeTracker, including company name and contact details.
- Time Entries — Time logged in TimeTracker pushes back to Clio, so everything is recorded in your practice management system for conflict checks, reporting, and billing.
Setting Up the Integration
- Go to More > Integrations and select Clio.
- Click Connect and sign in with your Clio credentials. You'll authorize TimeTracker to access your Clio account.
- Map your matters — Choose which Clio matters should sync as TimeTracker projects. You can sync all matters or select specific ones.
- Configure sync direction — Decide whether time entries push from TimeTracker to Clio, or both ways. Most firms push time to Clio since TimeTracker handles the detailed time capture.
- Click Save to activate the connection.
How Syncing Works
Once connected, the integration syncs automatically at regular intervals. New matters created in Clio will appear in TimeTracker on the next sync cycle. Time entries logged in TimeTracker are pushed to Clio so they're available for Clio's billing and reporting features.
If a matter is closed or archived in Clio, the corresponding project in TimeTracker is not automatically deleted — existing time entries are preserved. You can manually archive the project in TimeTracker when you're ready.
Tips
- Use UTBMS task codes in TimeTracker alongside the Clio integration — they carry over to Clio for e-billing compliance.
- If you add a new matter in Clio and don't see it in TimeTracker, wait for the next sync cycle or go to Integrations > Clio > Sync Now.
- The integration requires a LawBillity subscription tier.
