Configuring the Client Portal
Give clients a read-only view of their invoices, time, expenses, and project progress
Some clients want visibility into how their money is being spent — what hours have been logged, what expenses have been incurred, and where their invoices stand. The Client Portal gives them a self-service view without needing to email you for updates.
What the Client Portal Provides
Clients log in to a branded portal where they can:
- View and download invoices
- See time entry details (if you enable this)
- See expense details (if you enable this)
- Pay invoices online (if you have Stripe, LawPay, or CPACharge connected)
- View project progress and budgets
Setting Up the Portal
- Go to Admin > Settings > Client Portal.
- Toggle the Client Portal to Enabled.
- Configure visibility settings — choose what clients can see: invoices only, invoices + time details, or invoices + time + expenses.
- Customize the portal appearance with your logo and brand colors so it looks like part of your firm's experience.
- Set up email notifications so clients are alerted when new invoices are available.
- Click Save.
Inviting Clients
- Go to the Clients page and click the client's name.
- In the client details, enter a Portal Contact Email.
- Click Send Invitation.
- The client receives an email with a link to create their portal login.
Note: Clients can only see their own data — they cannot view other clients' information or your internal team details. Each client's portal view is completely isolated.
Best Practice
Enable the portal for clients who frequently ask for status updates or copies of invoices. It reduces the back-and-forth emails and gives them instant access to what they need.
