Jira Integration: Linking Time to Tickets

Log time against Jira tickets without leaving TimeTracker

The Jira integration lets you link time entries in TimeTracker to specific Jira tickets. This is useful for development teams that need to track billable hours against project tasks, or any organization that manages work in Jira and needs accurate time data for billing or reporting.

What It Does

Once connected, Jira projects and issues appear inside TimeTracker. When your team logs time, they can select the Jira ticket they worked on — so every hour is tied back to a specific task. Time data can flow back to Jira for project tracking and sprint reporting.

Setting Up

  1. Go to More > Integrations > Jira.
  2. Enter your Jira instance URL (e.g., yourcompany.atlassian.net).
  3. Authenticate with your Jira credentials and authorize TimeTracker.
  4. Select which Jira projects to sync with TimeTracker.
  5. Map Jira projects to TimeTracker clients and projects.
  6. Click Save.

Logging Time Against Jira Tickets

After setup, a Jira ticket field appears on time entry forms. When entering time on the Weekly or Daily Timesheet, select the relevant Jira issue from the dropdown. The issue key (e.g., DEV-142) is stored with the time entry and visible in reports.

Tips

  • Time logged in TimeTracker against a Jira ticket can appear as a worklog in Jira, keeping both systems in sync.
  • Use TimeTracker's reports to see total hours per Jira project or ticket — useful for sprint retrospectives and client billing.
  • If a Jira ticket doesn't appear in the dropdown, check that the parent project is included in your sync settings.
