UTBMS (Uniform Task-Based Management System) codes are standardized codes for classifying legal work. They allow law firms and their clients to categorize and analyze legal spending consistently.

Assigning Codes to Time Entries
When entering time in LawBility, you'll see UTBMS code fields alongside the standard activity dropdown. Select the appropriate task and activity codes that describe the work performed. These codes are then included in LEDES exports.
Managing UTBMS Codes
- Go to Settings > UTBMS Codes.
- View the full list of available codes.
- Enable or disable specific codes based on your firm's practice areas.
- Set default codes for common activities to save time during entry.
